Everything just came together so perfectly, from the way the rice held it's form in a perfect ball, to the lob that nailed Will straight in the face...

Will did crawl over "ewoks" heads to get to me but I stood there laughing and couldn't believe this kid, who would wipe shit on his friends or beat off on you if you fell asleep, was so fucking pissed.
I, for the record, neither bolted, nor got the shit kicked out of me. I stood there and took the verbal lashing that only Will Greene could give, while 100s of children glared at me like I had ruined Christmas.

I fucking love this band.Jeff J Jawkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08167484331296959486noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6469040123326158640.post-64088502653576257272009-01-18T04:28:00.000-05:002009-01-18T04:28:00.000-05:00Kenn's right, it was a rice ball. And I think it w...Kenn's right, it was a rice ball. And I think it was 96. That was a show at BLT's with Quadiliacha, Levelhead, The Martin Family, and The 42.

I recall, as it was my first show in Atlanta after moving from Richmond, VA to Conyers, GA.

At the time the only Atlanta band I was familiar with was Quadiliacha -- they had a tune on the Dear Fred It Was Me That Did It comp, which was mostly Richmond bands.

I wrote Quadiliacha and got a letter back Will. He told me he had a friend out in Conyers and that he would put us in touch. A few days later Ed Cheatam (The Martin Family, now The Mr. Move) called, we chatted a bit and he explained the mechanics of the Atlanta scene.

After a few months in school I'd made some friends, explained to them that 99X wasn't punk, and convinced everyone we needed to go to a show. Our buddy Chuck's mom was cool and agreed to tote us into the city.

As I recall it was me, Chris Black, Kevin Sanders, Chuck Sammons, and Jonathan Gross. I distinctly remember rolling up to BLT's and everyone being a bit freaked out -- Chris wanted us to turn around and go home.

But we went in. And it was a great show.

I'm sure we looked a bit out of place being a pack of little kids that no one knew. I remember people being curious what we were doing at a diy show. Will spotted us right off and introduced us around a bit. We picked up the nickname "ctown ewoks", which stuck for a few years.

As for the rice ball, I remember Will getting hit in the head in the middle of a tune. He threw his guitar down, chased someone out in the crowd, and wrapped things up with an on-stage rant.

I didn't know it was Jeff that hit him.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6469040123326158640.post-56086442335050526282009-01-17T23:06:00.000-05:002009-01-17T23:06:00.000-05:00Im pretty sure the Jeff J Jawk fight was over a th...Im pretty sure the Jeff J Jawk fight was over a thrown rice ball but you would have to ask Jeff.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6469040123326158640.post-80939234316184730222009-01-17T15:58:00.000-05:002009-01-17T15:58:00.000-05:00Very cool.
